Nepal earthquake: REDOG in action 2015
After around one week’s work in the earthquake region in Nepal, the REDOG rescue dog team returned safe and sound on 4 May 2015.
Together with the Turkish rescue organisation, GEA, REDOG helped with the search for disaster victims in Nepal. After GEA saves the lives of two persons, the REDOG team and GEA continue to searched for further victims. REDOG was also requested to send a search team by the rescuers at various other disaster events. The victims were dead when found.
76 search and rescue teams from 31 countries searched around the clock for people buried under rubble following the devastating earthquake in Nepal. Faced with a complex situation, they nevertheless managed to rescue 16 people, according to the overview by OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs). Unfortunately, all help came too late for 178 victims. They administered first aid to 1,182 injured persons. REDOG participated in the rescue effort together with its Turkish partner organisation, GEA. GEA’s final report describes the intensive days in Nepal.
